Learning paths dashboard

Learn how to track key metrics and analyze learner progress with the learning paths dashboard.

Updated today

The learning paths dashboard provides a comprehensive overview of key performance indicators (KPIs) related to learners and their engagement with learning paths. This article explains the structure, available metrics, visualizations, and data tables within the dashboard, as well as the raw data tab for in-depth analysis.

Examples of use cases

  • Identifying low completion rates: If a particular learning path has a low completion rate, consider reviewing its content or structure to improve learner engagement.

  • Tracking weekly trends: Use the bar chart to spot increases or decreases in learning path starts, which may correlate with organizational events or initiatives.

  • Comparing providers: Analyze which providers have the highest number of started or completed learning paths to inform future content partnerships.

  • Supporting individual learners: Use the raw data tab to identify learners who may need additional support based on their progress or completion status.

Accessing the journeys dashboard

In the main navigation on the left, click on Analytics. Then, click on Learning paths to open the learning paths dashboard.

The dashboard is organized into several sections, each offering different insights into learning path activity and learner progress. The main navigation includes:

  • Overview section with aggregated KPIs and a bar chart

  • Topic, provider, and type breakdowns via tables and charts

  • Details section with a comprehensive table of all learning paths

  • Raw data tab for user-level progress data

Dashboard filters

Three filters are available at the top of the dashboard. These filters apply to all data and visualizations in the current view:

  • Date filter: Select the time period for which you want to view data.

  • Team filter: Filter data by specific teams within your organization.

  • User role filter: Filter data by user roles, for example, to exclude admins (owners) and focus on learners (members).

All active filters are considered in the data displayed and in any exports or downloads.

Metrics tab

Overview section: Key performance indicators (KPIs)

This section provides metrics on the usage and completion of learning paths.

KPI

Description

Learning paths started

Number of learning paths that have been started by learners.

Learning path completion rate

Percentage of started learning paths that have been completed.

Average learning path progress

Average progress (in percent) made by learners in all started learning paths.

A bar chart shows the number of learning paths started per week.

Note: The average learning path progress often gives a more accurate representation of learner success than the completion rate alone. While the completion rate only accounts for learners who finish 100% of the path, the progress metric reflects overall engagement and progress, even if the course isn’t fully completed.

For example, let's say ten learners start a learning path with a total duration of 50 minutes. On average, each learner completes 40 minutes, but none finish the entire path. Despite this positive engagement, the completion rate remains at 0%. However, the average learning path progress is 80%, offering a clearer and more meaningful insight into learner activity and success.

The first section of the dashboard presents three aggregated KPIs, providing a high-level summary of learning path engagement and completion:

Breakdown by topic, provider, and type

The dashboard includes three additional visualizations to help you analyze learning path engagement from different perspectives:

  1. Learning paths started per topic: A table showing how many learning paths have been started for each topic. This helps identify which subject areas are most popular among learners.

  2. Learning paths started per provider: A chart displaying the number of started learning paths for each provider. This is useful for evaluating the reach and effectiveness of different content providers.

  3. Learning paths started per learning path type: A chart showing the number of started learning paths by type, such as adaptive or static. This allows you to compare engagement across different learning path formats.

Details section: Learning path table

The details section contains a table listing all learning paths that exist within the organization. Each row represents a learning path and includes the following attributes:

Attribute

Description

Learning path title

The name of the learning path.

Learning path type:

The format of the learning path, such as adaptive or static.

Provider

The content provider responsible for the learning path.

Number of times started

How often the learning path has been started by learners.

Learning path completion rate

The percentage of started instances of the learning path that have been completed.

Average learning path progress

The average percentage of progress made by learners in this learning path.

Raw data tab

The Raw Data tab provides a detailed table listing all users and their corresponding progress in learning paths. Each row represents a single learning path progress record for a user. The table includes the following attributes:

Attribute

Description

LEARNING_PATH_ID

Unique identifier for the learning path.

USER_ID

Unique identifier for the user.

FULL_NAME

The user's full name.

EMAIL

The user's email address.

LEARNING_PATH

The title of the learning path.

TYPE

The type of the learning path (e.g.,adaptive, static).

PROVIDER

The provider of the learning path.

STATUS

The user's current status in the learning path, such as "In Progress" or "Completed".

FIRST_STARTED_AT

The date when the user first started the learning path, if applicable.

LAST_PROGRESS_MADE_AT

The date when the user last made progress in the learning path.

HAS_COMPLETED_AT

The date when the user completed the learning path, if applicable.

MATERIALS_COMPLETED_COUNT

The number of materials the user has completed within the learning path.

MATERIALS_TOTAL_COUNT

The total number of materials included in the learning path.

MATERIALS_COMPLETED_PERCENTAE

The percentage of materials completed by the user.

MATERIALS_REMAINING_COUNT

The number of materials the user still needs to complete.

DURATION_COMPLETED_MINUTES

The number of minutes the user has completed in the learning path.

DURATION_TOTAL_MINUTES

The total duration of the learning path in minutes.

DURATION_COMPLETED_PERCENTAGE

The percentage of the total duration completed by the user.

DURATION_REMAINING_MINUTES

The number of minutes remaining for the user to complete the learning path.

SKILL_ATOMS_COMPLETED_COUNT

The number of skill atoms (smallest skill units) completed by the user in an adaptive learning path.

SKILL_ATOMS_TOTAL_COUNT

The total number of skill atoms in the adaptive learning path.

SKILL_ATOMS_COMPLETED_PERCENTAGE

The percentage of skill atoms completed by the user.

SKILL_ATOMS_REMAINING_COUNT

The number of skill atoms the user still needs to complete.

Important considerations

  • Data accuracy: The dashboard reflects only learning paths that have been started by at least one user.

  • Completion metrics: Completion rates and progress percentages are calculated based on started learning paths, not all available paths.

  • Adaptive vs. static paths: Some metrics, such as skill atoms, are only relevant for adaptive learning paths.
