Manage categories to organize learning paths

Updated over a month ago

Use categories to group and filter learning paths consistently across your organization. This guide shows how to access the categories area, create, translate, edit, and delete categories, and understand the table and language options.

Who can use this feature?

  • Available for users with role Owner, Curation Admin and Author

  • Available on All Plans

  • Available on Desktop

Accessing the categories area

  1. Open Learning management in the main navigation.

  2. Click Categories.

Understanding the categories table

The table lists all categories available in your organization, including categories created by your team and categories provided by external content partners.

Table columns

  • Name: The category name.

  • Provider: The source of the category (your organization or an external provider).

  • Languages: Each category can be maintained in all curation languages configured for your organization. A green checkmark appears when the name exists in all curation languages; otherwise, you see the language codes of the languages that were set for the category.

  • Usage: How many learning paths use the category.

  • Created by: The user who created the category.

  • Updated on: The last update date.

Note: Categories from external content providers appear in your list for transparency but are read-only. If an external provider renames or deletes a category, learning paths using it reflect the change automatically. For full control, prefer categories created by your organization.

Search and language selection

  • Search categories: Use the search bar above the table to filter by the Name attribute.

  • Language dropdown: Switch the curation language in the dropdown at the top right of the table. The Name column updates to show category names in the selected language when available; otherwise, a fallback language is used.

Tip: Manage your curation languages in your organization settings to control which localized category names you can maintain.

Creating a category

  1. Click + Category.

  2. Enter the category name for your curation languages in the dialog. Only the primary curation language is required; others are optional.

  3. Click Create.

Editing a category

You can edit categories created by your organization.

  1. Click the category row you want to edit.

  2. Update the names in the available curation languages.

  3. Click Update.

Deleting a category

  1. Hover over a category row and click the trash icon.

  2. Confirm by clicking Delete in the modal.

Important: Deleting a category removes it from all learning paths where it was assigned. Learning paths remain available, but they will no longer be classified by that category, and the corresponding filter disappears for learners.

Assigning categories to learning paths

Assigning or changing categories for a learning path is done on the learning path’s Details tab in edit mode. The categories area is for central creation, translation, and maintenance; it does not assign categories to specific learning paths.
