Use Mark as completed or Waive assignment to resolve an individual compliance assignment administratively. You can start either action from the assignment list or from the assigned person’s user profile.
Who can use this feature?
Manual assignment actions must be enabled for your organization in addition to the Compliance Center.
Users with role Owner can perform both actions across the organization.
Users with role Manager can mark assignments as completed for their direct reports only when the organization allows that action for managers. Waiving assignments requires its own separate permission in organization settings.
Managers cannot perform either action on their own assignments unless they also have the Owner role. The same rules apply in the assignment list and on user profiles.
Available on Desktop and Mobile.
For the two manager settings, see Manage organization settings. Administrative Compliance access is permission-dependent and is explained in Creating and managing compliance policies.
Choosing an assignment
Start from either location:
Assignment list: Open Compliance → Assignments and find the individual assignment you want to change. For help finding assignments, see Viewing and managing compliance assignments.
User profile: Open the relevant person’s profile and find the compliance assignment under Assignments on the General tab. See Understanding your user profile for profile navigation.
Open More actions for that assignment, then choose the available action you want to perform.
Entering a required reason
Both actions require a reason before you can confirm:
The reason must contain text after leading and trailing whitespace is removed. Spaces alone are not valid.
The reason must not exceed 500 characters. Use the character counter to check its length.
Confirmation remains disabled until the reason is valid.
Write the reason for the affected person. The dialogs state that the reason will be included in a notification to them. Do not treat it as a private internal note.
Marking an assignment as completed
In the assignment’s More actions menu, select Mark as completed.
Check the person and assignment shown in the dialog to make sure you are changing the correct assignment.
Enter your reason in Completion reason (required).
Review the warning: Marking an assignment as completed cannot be undone.
Select Mark as completed to confirm, or Cancel to leave without applying the action.
After successful confirmation, the assignment has status Completed. In the assignment list, the affected row updates with the completion status and the assignment’s completion time in Completed on, and a success confirmation appears.
Assignment completion is not learning path completion. Manually completing an assignment does not automatically complete its learning path or change learning path progress.
Waiving an assignment
In the assignment’s More actions menu, select Waive assignment.
Check the person and assignment shown in the dialog to make sure you are waiving the correct assignment.
Enter your reason in Waiving reason (required).
Review the warning: Waiving an assignment cannot be undone.
Select Waive assignment to confirm, or Cancel to leave without applying the action.
After successful confirmation, the assignment has status Waived, not Completed. The waiver applies only to the selected assignment; it does not waive other assignments or archive the policy.
Understanding statuses and future assignments
Completed means the assignment is completed, including when an authorized person has marked it as completed manually.
Waived means the individual assignment has been waived rather than completed.
Canceled indicates a system-side cancellation, rather than a manual completion or waiver.
For recurring assignments, later recurrence cycles continue normally after either manual action. For one-time assignments, manually completing or waiving the assignment does not create a replacement.
