The skill DNA visualization is an excellent tool for visually presenting patterns in skill distribution within an organization. It helps identify areas where skills are well-developed and highlights users who may need additional support or where skill gaps exist. These insights can guide targeted learning initiatives to address identified gaps effectively.

Understanding the skill DNA heatmap
The Skill DNA is a heatmap: a visual representation where individual values are highlighted using color. Each row corresponds to a user within the organization, and each column represents a chapter of a specific skill. The color in each cell reflects how the user in that row has rated the corresponding chapter. A darker blue indicates a higher rating, while a white cell means no rating has been provided yet.
These color patterns offer a clear snapshot of skill distribution across the organization. For instance, a column filled with dark blue suggests that most users have strong proficiency in that skill or chapter. By focusing on a single row, you can analyze an individual user's progress and identify potential skill gaps, enabling more targeted learning interventions.
Note:
Self-assessment: The values are derived from self-assessments, where users rate their own skills.
User inclusion: Only users who have rated at least one relevant skill are included in the table. Users with no ratings are excluded.
Current ratings only: The visualization reflects only the most recent ratings, ensuring that the current status is displayed (i.e., if a user has updated her rating of a chapter, only the last value is considered).
Filtering by skill profile
By default, the skill DNA visualization displays all users and all skills or chapters within the organization that are assigned to at least one skill profile. However, you can narrow down the data using the skill profile filter. This means:
Only users associated with the selected skill profile will be shown.
Only skills or chapters included in the skill profile will be displayed.
This filtering results in a smaller dataset, making it easier to identify patterns among users with similar goals, such as achieving specific skill profiles and associated skills.
